Progressions: Pros & Cons
Betting progressions are popular because they feel like a plan. They change how a session feels — not the maths of the game.
What A Betting Progression, Really Is?
A betting progression is just a rule for changing your stake based on whether you won or lost the last hand. Lose, bet more (or less); win, bet more (or less). That's the whole idea. It feels like a plan because it gives you something to do between hands and a reason behind each bet size. But be clear from the start: the rule only governs how much you stake, never the odds of the hand.
Blackjack's house edge comes from the rules of the game and how well you play each hand — not from the sequence of your bets.

How RTP Actually Works.
RTP is a long-run statistic, not a short-run promise. Think of it like rolling a 6-sided die - you "should" land each number ⅙ of the time, but in 60 rolls you might see 7 ones and 12 sixes. The math holds, just not always when you want it.
Most regulated slots run 94–97% RTP. The 3–6% difference between games matters more over thousands of sessions than any single spin. For Ontario players, all iGO-licensed games disclose verified RTP - which is why we focus only on those.
Low, Medium, High Volatility.
Volatility describes how a slot pays, not how much. Two slots can have the same 96% RTP but feel completely different to play.
Low
Frequent small wins. Bankroll lasts. Good for budget.
Medium
Balanced. Mix of small and occasional bigger hits.
High
Long dry spells, rare big wins.
Reels, Paylines, and Features.
Modern slots range from classic 3-reel fruit machines to 6-reel Megaways with 117,649 ways to win. Knowing the mechanics doesn't change RNG outcomes - but it does help you pick games you'll actually enjoy.
Megaways
Long-term theoretical payout. A 96% RTP means $96 returned for every $100 wagered - over millions of spins.
Hold & Win
How wins are distributed. High volatility = rare but big payouts. Low volatility = frequent but small wins.
Cascading Reels
Percent of spins that produce any payout. 25% means roughly 1 in 4 spins lands a win - even if tiny.
Buy Bonus
Maximum possible payout per spin, expressed as a multiplier of your bet. Most slots cap at 5,000–10,000×.
